We have further integrated the Xamarin Android Device Manager (Figure 5) into Visual Studio for Mac. This feature is still in Beta and is available as a replacement for the Android AVD Manager which was deprecated by Google in favor of a command line tool with the release of SDK Tools 26. The Device Manager allows you to quickly and easily create emulators and edit their configuration using the built-in property editor. It supports the latest emulators from Google and is able to download and install missing dependencies for you, so you don't have to switch to the SDK manager to install new system images. Emulators by default use quick boot for faster startup times (Figure 6).

This release of the SDK manager (Figure 7) includes numerous improvements to reliability and performance, as well as some visual improvements. In addition, we've added support for a "Recommended" Microsoft manifest, which contained verified versions of components that work with Xamarin applications. Components will only be offered for download when we support them.


Open MonoDevelop and browse to SMAPI/src/SMAPI.sln and open this solution file. MonoDevelop will automatically start downloading and installing the packages SMAPI uses, which may take a while depending on your internet connection. Once done you can try to build SMAPI and see if it works for you. If all went well, a basic build command should work now, but using the debugging features won't, which seems to be a known limitation for SMAPI development.


Freeware programs can be downloaded used free of charge and without any time limitations. Freeware products can be used free of charge for both personal and professional (commercial use).


This license is commonly used for video games and it allows users to download and play the game for free. Basically, a product is offered Free to Play (Freemium) and the user can decide if he wants to pay the money (Premium) for additional features, services, virtual or physical goods that expand the functionality of the game. In some cases, ads may be show to the users.


This software is no longer available for the download. This could be due to the program being discontinued, having a security issue or for other reasons.


This lab describes how to obtain andinstall Mono, and the major accompanying assemblies. The majority ofthe labs in this book can be completed using the packages installedas part of this lab. Where additional downloads are required, theywill be noted in each lab concerned.


The best way to install Mono is to use the official packages. TheMono project has released precompiled packages for Linux (Red Hat,SuSE, and Fedora Core), Windows, and Mac OS X platforms. In addition,Linux distributions with their own download channels such as Debianor Gentoo have incorporated Mono into their usual repositories.


The download page explains the interdependencies of the packages. Toobtain a functional Mono development environment, install thefollowing packages: mono-core,mono-core-devel,mono-posix,mono-xml-relaxng,mono-data-postgresql,mono-data-sqlite,gtk-sharp, monodoc,mono-web-services,mono-remoting, andbytefx-data-mysql. Fedora Core users can useyum install to download andinstall these packages. Alternatively, you can download the RPMs andinstall them manually using rpm -i.


The Ximian RedCarpet package manager can also be used to simplifyinstallation on Fedora Core, SuSE, and Red Hat platforms. Red Carpetcan be downloaded from installed, you can obtain the Mono packages from theMono channel.


Mono requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later torun. For Gtk#, X11 is also required. To installX11 for MacOS X, either download it from orinstall it from the CD that came with Mac OS X 10.3. The X11installer package will deposit everything needed to run X11 on yoursystem.


Source code and precompiled packagesof MonoDevelop can be obtained from the project web siteat Ifpossible, use precompiled packages for installation, because thenumber of prerequisites required to compile MonoDevelop is a littledaunting. Users of the Debian (unstable) or Gentoo Linuxdistributions should be able to locate amonodevelop package usingapt-get or emerge.


Developers coming from the Java world aremore likely to be familiar with the Ant buildtool than with make. The Mono and .NET world hasa similar tool, called NAnt. You can downloadNAnt from the web at Be sure to readthe accompanying documentation for Mono-specific notes on buildingand installing NAnt.


I also have the same problem. Xamarin Studio 6 came out of beta last week and it seem to break monogame support. There is a thread about it. Some suggested downloading the addin but it did not work for me. Hoping they fix it soon. You can try the downloading it yourself.

For Mac and Windows, you can download Xamarin Studio which is a bundle of MonoDevelop along with Xamarin iOS/Android plugins and branding. Note that a Xamarin license is only required if you develop iOS/Android projects, all other project types are free without restrictions.


Due to how Unity handles its .csproj files, it does not seem possible to install packages automatically. You will need to download the analyzers from the NuGet website manually. Make sure to download the .nupkg file, the source code from GitHub will not work.


The F# language bindings for MonoDevelop broke after version 2.4. You can get MonoDevelop version 2.4 by consulting the wayback machine for the MonoDevelop Download page at July 2011. You can then use the fsharpbindings and instructions from -variations.net/monodevelop/.Personally I fould MonoDeveloper before 2.6 more prone to crashing, and I couldn't get 2.4 working with FSharp.


You can find Mono for OS X on the Mono downloads page - the latest stable version at the time of writing is 2.10.8. The installation is, as is to be expected on a Mac, trivial - download and mount the disk image (.dmg file) and double-click the enclosed package (.pkg file). Downloading the Intel Mac mono runtime will install the Mono runtime, libraries and C# compiler, amongst various other bits and pieces.


You can download and install MonoDevelop from the MonoDevelop downloads page (the stable release at the time of writing is 2.8.6.3). This is also straightforward - download and mount the disk image and then drag the enclosed application icon into wither your main Applications folder or into your user-specific Applications folder.
